First homemade baby purées
Basic Vegetable Purée:
2 Large Carrots
1 Sweet Potato
small amount of unsalted butter (optional)
Peel and chop into small pieces. Boil or steam the carrots, and sweet potato until soft.
Blend down, adding a little unsalted butter if required. Place a little of the water used to boil the carrots / potatoes until you reach desired texture and consistency.
As you progress with weaning you can make the recipe up but making the texture more mashed as opposed to puréed
TIPS:
Try adding different vegetables to create a new purée such
as broccoli, parsnip, peas or pumpkin!
For fussy eaters, if you stick to a common taste that your baby like such as carrot, this provides a firm basis for adding in new flavours, so they still recognise the underlying taste.
Use 1 – 2 apples or pears.
Steam or cook these in hot water until soft.
Mash down to create a fruit purée
Do not add sugar to taste.
